About Adopt-A-Play


“Adopt-A-Play” is a reading series trying to find homes for excellent plays by playwrights leaving their institution.


Aodhan Gallagher

Bio

Aodhan Gallagher is a playwright born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. He moved to New York City four years ago having received a full Tisch Scholarship to study at NYU’s Department of Dramatic Writing and is now one of the BFA graduating playwrights. He intends to continue developing his work both in the US and back home in the UK, and is dedicated to creating complex, challenging queer/working-class roles for both stage and screen.

Synopsis of: The Vocations

Rahil decides to inform his deeply traditional, Muslim mother that he has been in an ongoing intimate relationship with his neighbor, Anthony. However, both boys’ lives are plunged into a state of intense confusion when Anthony confesses his inner calling to become a Catholic priest.

Ekaterina Vladimirova

Bio

Ekaterina Vladimirova is a playwright, screenwriter, filmmaker, and a graduating senior from the NYU Tisch Department of Dramatic Writing. She is a University Honors scholar, the recipient of the merit-based Pzena scholarship from the Department of Dramatic Writing, and was a quarter-finalist in Screencraft's short screenplay competition. The product of a Russian-American household and an upbringing on the Arizona-Mexico border, she is largely influenced by international perspectives and explores themes of identity, both national and familial, in her work.

Synopsis of: The Extraordinary Autopsy of Genie and Evelyn Price

Dead people! And Drugs! And so much more-- a video store, a guinea pig, a linebacker, LIES!!!, locally-sourced lesbian porn, an ordinary American family and its extraordinary demise– all wrapped up into this comedy about the tragic deaths of the women of the Price family.

Anthony Anello

Bio

Anthony Anello is a graduating senior in Dramatic Writing, as well as, co-founder and co-president of the Broke People Play Festival. Many of his ten minute works have been produced at NYU including Dead Drop Outs, Little Purple Betta Fish, The Human Traffic Cone, 3, Wei Wu Wei, and the pink play. His short play, GAY ST., was showcased in Greenwich Village Historic District’s 50th TheaterJam at the Cherry Lane Theater. His full length works include Hoarders and The World’s Quickest Magic Trick. He hopes you enjoy the show!

Synopsis of: A Dog Dies

Jenny and Daryl have a dog. His name is Toby. Toby is dying. But when the Vet says it is time to put the dog to sleep, Jenny isn’t ready. A dark comedy about marriage, leashes, and vegan dog food.

Kanishk Pandey

Bio

Kanishk Pandey is a playwright, born in Davis, CA. He is currently one of the graduating playwrights in NYU’s Department of Dramatic Writing. He was a finalist for the O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference in 2018 for his play COLONY. His play RUNFASTRUN was read at Powerhouse Theatre Festival as a Playwright Apprentice. GLENN is his thesis play.

Synopsis of: Glenn

While returning home from her mother’s funeral, Karna and her partner, John, discover the head of a dying Giant. As Karna falls deeper and deeper into caring for The Giant, leaving behind her normal life, she is forced to come face to face with what it means to die.
